01 Problem
Learners on the DepEd MATATAG curriculum often share a phone and have no reliable internet, so cloud-based edtech never reaches them.
02 What I built
Mastery-gated practice generated from teachers’ own MATATAG lessons, the on-device llama.cpp tutor running SeaLLMs-v3 1.5B, and teacher-to-learner sync over a phone hotspot. 659 tests.
03 Security notes
Everything runs on the device. No learner data leaves the phone, and the AI never grades.
04 Impact
Shows that a useful AI tutor can run fully offline on the kind of shared phone a public-school family actually owns. Teachers don’t have to write anything new; their existing lessons become the practice.
05 What I took from it
Designing for airplane mode first forces every feature to justify itself.
