Building Secure Systems at Blockcelerate

By Salvador Vincent Javier

JBECP's Blockcelerate explored blockchain and security — how trust is engineered through cryptographic principles and decentralized systems.

Blockcelerate, organized by JBECP, brought together students interested in blockchain technology and its security implications. The event explored how decentralized systems approach trust differently from traditional architectures.

We covered how blockchain achieves trustless consensus through cryptographic proofs, where traditional cybersecurity practice meets Web3 security, common smart contract vulnerabilities and attack vectors, and the security implications of DeFi protocols.

The event was particularly valuable in bridging the gap between blockchain enthusiasm and practical security awareness. Many attendees were excited about Web3 but hadn't considered the unique security challenges that come with immutable, decentralized systems.

Participating in Blockcelerate reinforced an important lesson — security must be designed into systems from the ground up, not bolted on as an afterthought. Whether it's a traditional web application or a smart contract, the principles remain the same: think about what can go wrong before it does.
